Arroyo, Billy Joel, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana and Shirley MacLaine are the five honorees.

Erykah Badu Named the new Face of Givenchy

Badu recently appeared on an episode of Real Husbands of Hollywood.

Badu recently appeared on an episode of Real Husbands of Hollywood.

One of the top designers of the decade, Givenchy has named Dallas’ own Erykah Badu as the spokesmodel for their Spring/Summer 2014 campaign.

Designer Riccardo Tisci chose the icon of natural black beauty to represent his upcoming Africa-meets-Japan themed collection.

“Erykah, she’s an icon—come on!” Tisci told “She’s one of the most stylish women I’ve met in my life. She’s got such a good sense of proportion, of colors.”

Tisci’s whole collection will feature women of color, despite setbacks like the Barney’s (which carries the brand) racial discrimination scandal earlier this year.

Phaedra Announces That her and Apollo…

On Dec 2, while on the Bethenny Frankel Show, RHOA co-star Phaedra Parks assured fans that her marriage with husband Apollo Nida is “just fine.”

But she also said that definitely thought that her husband was wrong for even entertaining (and texting) co-star Kenya Moore.

“Two inappropriate people acting inappropriately,” is what she called it.

On Dec 12, housewife Cynthia Bailey spoke her opinion about the whole situation on the Bethenny show.

“Obviously, enough happened to for it to get to this point. Kenya definitely insinuated…I’m excited for Phaedra to just “kill it” and move on,” she added.

FYI, Cynthia also assurred us that her thyroid problems “are behind her now,” and her and husband Peter are back having sex “constantly.” Peter looked really amused. lol

Is Julia Roberts Hiding a Baby Bump?

After a couple suspicious pics surfaced online this week, rumors are that Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts is pregnant. Most recently, while with her hubby Danny Moder’s parents home, her belly looked quite pudgy, or maybe even…round. Maybe the star (whose 46)  has just put on a few pounds since she’s not in the public eye as much, but her clothing (recently) has been baggy. And earlier in the week, she actually walked onto the stage at the 2013 BAFTA L.A. Awards (with George Clooney) barefoot! not to mention she was in a baby doll dress. Inside joke maybe? I guess we’ll know soon.

This Year’s Grammy Noms

Jay-Z left the building with the most nominations this year, finally! Nine Nominations for Magna Carter, Holy Grail. Meanwhile, Kanye West’s  New Slaves was nominated for Best Rap Song, and his critically-praised  Yeezus was nominated for Best Rap Album (produced by Dallas’ own Symbolc 1,)  althought it was shut out for Album of Year.

Rihanna was nominated for Best Urban Album.

Next in line was Ryan Lewis and Macklemore who killed it with seven nominations for their song Thrift Shop, which is the first song from an independent label to reach No. 1 in 20 years. Justin Timberlake got seven noms for The 20/20 Experience, although he didn’t get a nom for Album of the Year.

Keith Urban was one of the performers at The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live! He did  a cover of Bill Withers’ Ain’t No Sunshine alongside R&B singer Miguel.  Urban’s album is No. 1 in three countries and he left with a nod in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category for Highway Don’t Care, his collaboration with Tim McGraw and Taylor Swift. Swift performed via satellite while on her Red Tour in Australia. The country star scored four nominations, including  Album of the Year, Best Country Album, Best Country Song (Begin Again) and Best Country Duo/Group Performance (Highway Don’t Care). and Katy Perry did her bit live from Toronto And of course, got noms for Roar. Robin Thicke only left with three nominations for Blurred Lines, but gave a great performance with T.I. (No Miley Cyrus this time.)  The most anticipated performance of the night was Lorde singing her song Royal, although she seemed quite ackward onstage. However, she received four noms for the song. Youngster Mack Wilds was also nominated for his single Own It, which we love! Fantasia also received a Best R&B Song nom for Bittersweet. But none for Ciara, as usual.

Surprisingly, neither of Miley’s singles were nominated, maybe with good reason.

Celeb Friends Send Best Wishes to Kanye

2 Chainz

“It’s funny, I talked it him and I was like, ‘Bruh, I think I need you at Birthday Bash,” 2 Chainz told MTV News of a convo that he and West had prior to ‘Ye’s daughter being born. “He was like, ‘Kim won’t let me go, we might have the baby’ and it’s funny that they literally had it.”

When asked what advice he gives to new daddy Kanye West, he added,

“I try to do father/daughter time all the time,” Chainz said. “I think it’s very important that fathers spend times with their daughters.”

DJ Drama

“I’m happy for him, it’s a beautiful thing, especially right around Father’s Day for Kanye to have his first child and everything. Congratulations to the two of ’em,” DJ Drama told us.

TI had this to say about Yeezy:

If he’s as dedicated and committed to fatherhood as he has been to everything else he has done, I think that’s gonna be one brilliant baby,” he said of the rapper’s daughter.

New dad Meek Mill warned the couple:

“Kanye, Kim Kardashian, they ain’t gettin’ no sleep this month. You see them in an interview, they’re both gonna have bags under their eyes from the baby laying in the bed screaming. Security can’t stop this, the managers can’t stop this,” he joked.

UPDATE: Wayne Visited by TI and Others in Hospital; TI Bashes TMZ for Reporting Lies?

After TMZ and CNN allegedly reported that Lil Wayne was in a coma with his family at his death bed, the rapper seems to be fine now and has returned to Twitter.

The rapper’s publicist told the Daily News that Wayne was not in any imminent danger.
“He is not in critical condition. He is recovering and doing well now. He appreciates everyone’s concern. But he is okay,” Kia Selby, a publicist at Cash Money Records, said.

However, at the time of his hospitalization, his reps would not issue a statement on his condition.

Wayne’s first seizure happened Tuesday after a concert in LA. He was taken to the hospital and later released. His bodyguard actually found him on his hotel room floor during his second seizure and he was taken back to emergency a second time.

TMZ later had to retract their statement of Lil Wayne about to receive his last rites at the hospital once Cash Money’s Mack Maine announced that the report was false.

Nevertheless, Wayne was visited by Mack, Baby, Nicki Minaj, TI, Drake and Chris Paul. TI had some choice words for TMZ. Saying, “TMZ, all of y’all take this entertainment sh-t way too far my ni–a” T.I. told SkeeTV. “We men first. We got mommas, we got kids, we got families, man. When they hurt, we hurt, understand that.”

So maybe Wayne’s condition really was over-exaggerated by TMZ.

Wayne’s dependency on sizzurp (a mix of codeine and soda) seems to be the reason for the multiple seizures he’s had over the years. His last batch of seizures occurred only six months ago.

What if his bodyguard hadn’t found him? Would He have really died?

These rappers (and anyone else) really need to be more responsible with their lives and leave the sizzurp alone. Rappers DJ Screw and Pimp C lost their lives to the prescription drug. Who will be next?

t.i. starts prison sentence

Clifford J. Harris Jr., a.k.a. “T.I.,” 27, of College Park, Ga., was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Charles A. Pannell, Jr. on charges of unlawfully possessing machine guns and silencers and possession of firearms by a convicted felon, announced David Nahmias, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.

Harris was sentenced to serve one year and one day in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He was also sentenced to 365 days of home confinement, 1500 hours of community service and a  $100,000 fine.

“We are very pleased with the result in this case,” said David E. Nahmias, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.  “Mr. Harris has received a significant penalty for the serious firearms offenses he committed…His prison sentence was reduced from what it might have been, but the public got something very significant in exchange: the extensive and unique community service program that Mr. Harris committed to doing when he pleaded guilty. By all accounts, his community service has been a remarkable success – it certainly exceeded our expectations – and there is still more to come when he gets out of prison.”

“I hope that young people are paying close attention to this case and realize that no one who commits gun offenses is immune from investigation, prosecution and possible prison time,” said Special Agent-in-Charge Gregory Gant of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

At the sentencing hearing, the court found that Harris had fully complied with the conditions of his plea agreement and bond.

t.i. april vibe cover

VIBE Magazine will feature platinum, Grammy Award–winning rapper and actor T.I. on its April 2009 cover in a striking photo. The controversial star’s feature is a prelude to his upcoming prison sentence where he will serve a year and a day for charges related to his illegal possession of firearms.

In an extensive report titled “Cell Therapy,” VIBE Senior Editor Benjamin Meadows-Ingram chronicles the superstar’s history-making legal battle and gut-wrenching journey since his 2007 arrest for attempting to collect three unregistered machine guns and two silencers following his BET Hip Hop Awards performance rehearsal.

After the announcement on March 27, 2008 of what many felt was a shockingly light slap on the wrist for the serious charges, many responded by screaming, “Snitch!”

T.I. bites back at rumors about how he scored this largely unprecedented deal by saying, “Ain’t no such thing as a secret snitch…Pull up my agreement. It’s public record.”

In the thought-provoking feature, Meadows-Ingram meets with the rapper/actor in Washington, D.C., on the eve of President Barack Obama’s inauguration, where T.I. accepted an award from the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network for his work with the “Respect My Vote” campaign.

A jury found Hosea Thomas guilty of murder, felonious assault and illegally having a gun after a felony conviction and Judge Ralph Winkler sentenced the 34-year-old to 66 years to life on Tuesday. Thomas will not be eligible for release until 2074, when he will be 100 years old.

“(Thomas) gave Philant Johnson a death sentence, and his family — he gave them a death sentence as well,” the judge said while handing down Thomas’ sentence. “All of his crimes have been cowardly and senseless. … You could say he’s the poster boy for gun violence in Cincinnati.”

Last month Atlanta rapper T.I. took the stand in a Cincinnati courtroom and testified that shots fired on May, 3, 2006 were meant for him, not his friend and assistant Philant Johnson, who was killed during the shootout.

T.I. has publicly declared that the demise of his dear comrade initiated his decision to buy firearms, which resulted in federal gun charges. The rapper will serve one year in federal prison for in 2009.
