Can Da Brat Cough up $6.4 Million for Assault Victim?

20140228-162600.jpg

Rapper Da Brat has been ordered to $6.4 million dollars to the woman she hit with a rum bottle in 2007. A Cobb County jury ruled on Thursday.

As you remember, Da Brat, Shawntae Harris, served three years in prison and got another five years for attacking Shayla Stevens, a former Atlanta Falcons cheerleader.

Stevens later filed a civil suit against Harris, and that trial concluded Thursday with the verdict. Harris was ordered to pay $3.7 million in compensatory damages and an additional $2.7 million in punitive damages.

According to Stevens’ attorney, his client sustained lifelong injuries in the assault, which happened at a Halloween party at Studio 72, a club owned by Jermaine Dupri.

“She has a brain injury and is a brain injury survivor,” Mark Link, an attorney for Stevens, told The AJC. “It’s not something that will ever go away. She has a scar on her face. She had so much going for her and for it come to an abrupt stop because of this attack.”

But does Da Brat even have $6.4 million? We’re not so sure. Maybe JD, LisaRaye and Mariah Carey can all pitch in.

What we do know is this wasn’t her first violent incident.

In 2001, she pistol whipped a woman, but charges were never filed.

Obama Calls Americas Most Popular Couple a Bad Influence

Prez Obama has called out Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. He says that shows like Keeping up With the Kardashians give young teens a false sense of reality and says the couple are a bad influence.

We know that the President is not too fond of West, once calling him a “talented jackass.”

Here’s what Obama said actually,

“The American dream involved some pretty basic stuff, a good job where you felt some security, a good education. People felt if they worked hard they could get there. I don’t think people went around saying to themselves, ‘I need to have a 10,000-square-foot house’. I think there has also been a shift in culture. We weren’t exposed to the things we didn’t have in the same way that kids these days are. There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing or where Kanye West was going on vacation and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.”

SO SAD: Toni Braxton Will Have to pay to Perform her own Songs

Toni Braxton has lost the rights to 27 of her songs in an auction due to her bankruptcy issues.

Years back when Toni owed the IRS she had her catalog taken from her. A judge told her that she could pay $27,000 to get her catalog back, but since they were put in an auction, anyone could outbid her and buy the songs.

Well, either Toni doesnt have the money or has no desire to ever perform her hits again. An LA judge bought the 27 song catalog which includes some of her most beloved hits including, Let me Count the Ways, You’re Making me High, Always and many more.

This means that Toni will have to pay in order to sing and perform her own songs.

So sad. Maybe she should have been saving the money she’s been making from Braxton Family Values to pay for the catalog.

FYI…

Unbreak my Heart is not in the catalog because it was written by a third party.

Nicolas Cage Owes IRS Millions and Is Suing Business Manager

IRS has filed liens against Nicolas Cage for more than $6 million in back taxes which will  force the mega-star  to sell off major assets and investments in order to pay off his back tax liabilities.

Cage has filed a lawsuit in L.A. County Superior Court against his former business manager, Samuel Levin. The lawsuit claims that over a period of seven years, “Levin placed Cage in numerous highly speculative and risky real estate investments, resulting in Cage suffering catastrophic losses, ”  states the lawsuit file.

Cage also claims Levin failed to pay taxes when they were due. Cage claims it was only this year, after firing Levin, that he learned of his financial issues.

His lawyer Marty Singer, claims in the lawsuit that Levin never advised him of his financial situation and is guilty of “over-extending [Cage’s] line of credit with banks and financial institutions.” The suit also claims that Levin concealed hid Cage’s “true financial condition prior to investments and assets being acquired by [Cage].”

Cage earned $40 milion between June 2008 and June 2009, according to Forbes.

Cage is suing  for a minimum of $20 million.
