Jay-Z Issues Statement About Being Pressured Into Denouncing Barney’s

image

Media mogul Jay-Z has finally responded to  being put on the front page of the New York Daily News after the Barney’s racial profiling scandal and the backlash, requests and petitions he’s received to stop  patroning and doing business with the high end department store.

His statement has been posted to his Life and Times blog stating he is:

“…waiting on facts and the outcome of a meeting between community leaders and Barneys” and doesn’t make decisions based on emotions. Further, by stepping away from the deal, Jay Z believes it will hurt all those who stand to receive funds from the Shawn Carter Foundation. Check out the full statement below, which includes the seemingly odd breakdown of the proceeds: This collaboration lives in a place of giving and is about the Foundation. I am not making a dime from this collection; I do not stand to make millions, as falsely reported. I need to make that fact crystal clear. The Shawn Carter Foundation is the beneficiary and the foundation is receiving 25% of all sales from the collaboration, 10% of all sales generated in the store on November 20th and an additional donation from Barneys. This money is going to help individuals facing socio-economic hardships to help further their education at institutions of higher learning. My idea was born out of creativity and charity… not profit.

I move and speak based on facts and not emotion. I haven’t made any comments because I am waiting on facts and the outcome of a meeting between community leaders and Barneys. Why am I being demonized, and thrown on the cover of a newspaper for not speaking immediately? The negligent, erroneous reports and attacks on my character, intentions, and the spirit of this collaboration have forced me into a statement I didn’t want to make without the full facts. Making a decision prematurely to pull out of this project, wouldn’t hurt Barneys or Shawn Carter, but all the people that stand a chance at higher education. I have been working with my team ever since the situation was brought to my attention to get to the bottom of these incidents and at the same time find a solution that doesn’t harm all those that stand to benefit from this collaboration. I am against discrimination of any kind, but if I make snap judgements, no matter who it’s towards, aren’t I committing the same sin as someone who profiles? I am no stranger to being profiled and I truly empathize with anyone that has been put in that position. Hopefully this brings forth a dialogue to effect real change. – Shawn “JAY Z” Carter

Drake and Chris Brown Bury the Hatchet aka Rihanna

Maybe there’s a chance for world peace.

Drake and Chris were reportedly spotted backstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on Sept. 21, hugging, laughing and drinking.

It seems now that trouble girl Rihanna is out of both of their lives, the two have become not only amicable, but friends!

Drake watched Brown’s entire set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas and then headed backstage to party.

Hollywood Life reports:

“The artists, who infamously got into a brawl at nightclub W.I.P. in 2012, are said to have finally ended their bitter feud over Rihanna. Drake allegedly sent Chris a bottle of alcohol with a nasty note about how he slept with Rihanna. That’s when a fight between their entourages broke out, bottles were thrown and bystanders got hurt. “Drake came on Friday with his whole crew, and watched Chris’ entire set,” a source says. “They were backstage hugging and drinking.”

But the most shocking part of all of this, they are planning on possibly recording music together, according to the report. Now that would definitely be quite the collaboration. Perhaps they would sing about RiRi? Both Drake and Chris had a busy weekend and a lot to celebrate. Chris’ new dance film Battle of the Year hit theaters on Sept. 20, and Drake’s new album, Nothing Was The Same, made its official debut on Sept. 24.”

It was supposedly Brown who went into Drake’s dressing room to talk things through. Chris Brown apparently facebooked on Oct 3 that he was working in studio with Drake, however the video that posted was old and showed both of them at younger ages.

We’re sure further posts or maybe even interviews from either artist will give us more details about their collaboration.
