Although friends and co-workers have known for years, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts used her Facebook page (last week) to announce to the public and fans that she is a lesbian.
On Sunday, she wrote a thankful message about her recent battle with cancer and mentioned her longtime girlfriend saying,
In an end-of-the-year message posted on her Facebook “like” page Sunday, Roberts wrote: “I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.”
While Roberts did not give the name of her lady friend, People magazine has identified her as Amber Laign, a licensed massage therapist from San Francisco whom she met through mutual friends a decade ago.
Roberts appreciative and reflective Facebook posting came on the first anniversary of the 100th day of her recovery from her bone marrow transplant.
Roberts obviously chose a very smart and “casual” route to proclaim her sexual orientation. But First Lady Michelle Obama may have actually exploded the post to the attention of the whole world.
The First lady tweeted her support to Roberts Monday: “I am so happy for you and Amber! You continue to make us all proud.”
Do you think as many people would have noticed Robert’s post without the “help” of Mrs. Obama?
Do you think the First Lady is wrong and inapropriate for even congratulating such a controversial matter as sexual preference?
