paul maccartney cannot get his songs back

Sir Paul McCartney is apparently very angry that will not be able to claim back ownership of the Beatles catalog now that the former owner Michael Jackson is now deceased. The former Beatles thought that he would be able to buy back at least some of his most famous songs, however, it has just been revealed that Jackson sold most of his rights to the songs right before he died.

In 1985, Jackson outbid Macca and purchases the rights soon after his duets with McCartney (The Girl Is Mine and Say, Say, Say.)

He secretly sold them however, to unload some of his financial troubles.

A source at the Los Angeles HQ of Sony/ATV, the music publishing company which shares responsibility for the hits with Jackson”’s estate, said Jackson had dispensed with all but five per cent of his remaining 25 per cent of the catalogue.

Along with McCartey, the news is sure to be a big blow to Macca, who has complained in the past that he still has to pay to play some of his own songs.
