Lix dot Kong Gives His State of Hip-Hop Address

National rapper Lix dot Kong is proud to claim three coasts. Born in New Orleans and raised in Bremerton, Washington, he came into manhood and snatched his position in hip hop once his relocated to New York. A true entrepreneur in every sense of the word, Lix grew up around Black Panthers and Crip gang members and listened to the music of mentors LL Cool J, Ice Cube, NWA, Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound, DJ Quik, Tupac, Biggie, Brotha Lynch Hung, Lil Wayne, Juvenile, BG, Soulja Slim, C- Murda, and Master P. Now the artist known as Lix dot Kong, is evolving into a full-time entrepreneur with internet and legal endeavors under his umbrella.

Aspiring MC’s and hip hop entrepreneurs can learn a few things from Lix dot Kong. Check out The Journalista’s fascinating conversation with the ex- Dogg Pound connect.

What’s up with your name Lix dot Kong?

Lix dot Kong is a name that best describes my trek through the different levels of Hip Hop. If you know the movie King Kong, he finally wound up in New York City, where he created quite a stir for the local citizens. Being targeted by the government, and castrated by the media. First people knew me as only Lix, but I became Kong once I finally understood the inner workings of this HipHop industry. My management team has reached out to most of the labels in New York, and have been turned away, Like Jay-Z once was. Now, I plan to cause trouble in New York until people respect me as one of the best rappers alive. I added the “dot” because as we all know “dot” connects people to the internet. Without that dot your nothing on the internet. People I know and MySpace fans always tell me I got this internet marketing game on lock, so in essence Lix dot Kong can also stand for the King of the internet.

How is your networking game?

I feel like without networking, you’re not going to make it in any area of life. HipHop is 90% networking. Of course you have to have the talent to make it. But, some artists feel that having one hit is good too. The kind of network you have directly determines the level of success you will have. If you don’t have a network, please put the music down for a few months, and build up your network. I am quiet at times, especially when I’m in social settings in New York, but I have learned over time that people respect confidence. So, I learned to be confident and make sure that I have something to bring to the table when I meet new people for business.

How has growing up in numerous cities shaped your appreciation for artistic expression?

Seattle taught me to be more creative within myself when doing music. Seattle is the alternative capitol of the world; Home to Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Kobain, Nirvana, Sir- Mix- A-Lot, and Bruce Lee. New York, as well, is a melting pot of different ideas. New York has definitely raised me from a boy to a man. I love Newark, NJ and New York for opening my eyes to new ways of thinking.

How did you hook up with Tha Dogg Pound?

I hooked up with Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound through a contest they were having on Allhiphop.com. Daz Dillinger was looking for new artists for his record label, and I was picked to form a group called DP Next Generation. We traveled to a few states together and shot some video fottage and that was about it. I teamed up with a DJ from France named DJ Suarez, who works alongside Snoop Dogg and JT Tha Bigga Figga’s camp. So, we were able to secure production from Snoop Dogg, for my single F Pac n Dogg Pound. The song is getting worldwide radio airplay, from Italy, to Germany, and a few places in between.

Tell me about the mixtape, Hip Hop Still Raised In The Street.

HipHop Still Raised in the Street is a compilation built around West Coast artists. The West Coast never really gets the respect it deserves for taking HipHop to the next level. So, we’ve always had to get our love from the streets. That’s why we titled it, Hip Hop Still Raised in the Street. I am happy the album finally made it to itunes, Napster, Emusic, and Rhapsody. It was worth the struggle.

What’s next on your agenda?

I just finished up an incredible mixtape called Super Hero Music. Everyone should download it from my MySpace website. I am also currently doing a side project called Legendary Lix, I am working on this album with Deez, and DDG Entertainment in East Orange, NJ. They work out of a studio owned and operated by the Legendary Kool and The Gang. Be on the lookout for this album by winter of 2008. This album will have the feel of a Blueprint album by Jay-Z; lots of samples, and very heavy wordplay. Stories about my life, and some lessons for people still caught in the struggle; And of course, some political topics. I love that stuff. The album will also have a feel of DoggyStyle, by Snoop Dogg. That was a great album. But, it will be all Lix. Also, I just finished a mixtape for South France called The Mary Jane Mixtape. It’s hosted by DJ Madgik.

How are you different from other rappers/entrepreneurs in the game?

Well, I am actually one of the only unsigned rappers I know with his own social networking websites, built from the ground up. I own a website called www.ItsRoomy.com, and a site called www.Gashcamea.com. So, that should tell you, that I’m attaining to get that Jay-Z type money. My words are more alive than some other rappers. If you listen closely, my words are on a broader spectrum than just bragging’, or telling another hood story. Just because I don’t sound like Tupac, doesn’t mean my music isn’t just as uplifting. People just need to listen a little closer. I’m like Tupac was before the record deals; when the music wasn’t mastered, and he was in smaller studios. I think fans want everyone to have mixed and mastered songs all the time. I have those, but I still have songs I release that I record in my bedroom. Now, that’s HipHop.

TIMBALAND WEDS PUBLICIST

timbaland and wife

Rapper/producer Timbaland and Monique Idlett wed in a official ceremony on a hush-hush island in Aruba Sunday evening, Usmagazine.com has confirmed.

Guests included Missy Elliott, Omarion, rapper Magoo, singer Keri Hilson, Ginuwine, producer Nate “Danja” Hills and Interscope/Geffen Chairman Jimmy Iovine. In all, approximately 300 people were invited.

The couple tied the knot – in their sweats! – with a family pastor in Virginia earlier this month.

Timbaland and Idlett, who reside in Miami, welcomed a baby girl named Reign in November. Timbaland, 37, also has two sons, Demetrius and Frankie, from a preceding relationship.

Demetrius gave the bride away and Frankie was the ring bearer.

Reign was carried down the aisle by their longtime friend Fredrick Fraser, the vice president of Mosely Music.

Timbaland proposed during Idlett’s baby shower in October. They had been dating for two years and this is the first marriage for both.

WINEHOUSE DIAGNOSED WITH EMPHYSEMA

Soul diva Amy Winehouse has injured her lungs by smoking crack cocaine and cigarettes, her father said in an interview published Sunday.

The Sunday Mirror quoted Mitch Winehouse as saying that Amy has early stage emphysema and an erratic heartbeat, and has been cautioned that she will have to wear an oxygen mask unless she stops smoking drugs.

“The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs, it won’t just ruin her voice, it will kill her,” Mitch Winehouse was quoted as saying. “There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She has 70 percent lung capacity.”

Winehouse, 24, collapsed at her north London home Monday after signing autographs for a group of fans and was taken to a London hospital for tests. She remained there all week.

She is still scheduled to sing at a concert in London on Friday celebrating the 90th birthday of Nelson Mandela, the South African Nobel Prize-winner, and plans to take part in the Glastonbury music festival the following day.

Mitch Winehouse said it would be good for his daughter to perform.

“When she’s been inactive work-wise then that’s when the problems really start. The doctors have said that medically there isn’t any reason why she can’t do Glastonbury,” the paper quoted him as saying.

He also begged with her drug-taking friends to stay away from her.

“What hope does she have if people are taking drugs around her,” he said.

Chris Goodman, spokesman for Amy Winehouse, said “If that’s what Mitch says, that’s what he says. It sounds right.”

Britney returns home with “friends” waiting on her…

courtesy of etonline.com

Britney Spears is back in Los Angeles, after the birth of her sister’s baby, and back on the paparazzi role.

Within moments of landing at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday evening, Spears’ staff was caught up in a fight with a paparazzo.

Between 30 and 35 photographers horded her motor vehicle outside the terminal before a bodyguard pressed a camera into a photographer’s face, airport police Sgt. Jim Holcomb said.

Holcomb said the paparazzo protested that the shove left a small scratch on his cheek, however, the photographer became forgiving and no charges have been filed.

The 26-year-old pop star was unharmed, and Holcomb says officers made sure she

left the airport safely.

DJ CUTT NICE – The Great Lakes Advocate

cutty

DJ Cutt Nice aka “Magilla Cutty” is Michigan’s finest turntablist. The hardest working DJ in his area, he has performed with everyone from old heads Kurtis Blow and 2 Live Crew to newer cats like Cassidy and Tyrese. Known for his Classic 96.5 FM Radio Show SNL Mixology with Jay Scott,Cutt Nice is now the host of a new radio broadcast, but somehow still manages to keep the clubs and listeners happy with his mixtapes. His current release Still Grindin is genius; taking listeners on a trip through Michigan’s land of ill MC’s.

Check out the Journalista’s conversation with Michigan’s finest.

For those who have been under a rock, and hearing of you for the first time, tell us about yourself.

Cutty: Ha ha well let’s see I’m a person that’s very focus and determined to make things happen. I love to make people laugh to the fullest and I’m pretty laid back and just a ordinary cool person.

As a DJ, who has influenced you?

Cutty: DJ Jazzy Jeff. After I heard they’re first album Rock The House and when I saw the videos with him and the Fresh Prince BRAND NEW FUNK. That was it.

How did growing up in Michigan shape your attitude about music?

Cutty: At the age of 2 I had that gift of playing music (don’t believe me ask my parents) so then I already had it in my mind that I wanted to do something pertaining to music. I was a collector of music at the age of 8 (Run DMC and the Fat Boys was bought with my first allowance) So it didn’t matter where I was living at or from because music was born in me.

How did you hook up with the artists on your mixtape Still Grindin? You must have a great relationship with local artists in you area.

Cutty: I run into the artist in the streets or at a MC function and most of all at the clubs where I spin at. Yeah they respect me a whole lot and I respect what they do and I keep it real with them.

Tell us about the mixtape Still Grindin?

Cutty: Still Grindinis a mixtape that I wanted to focus on the talent that we have in the Great Lakes. People never give the artists here a chance and I respect what they do and they GRIND like I do so I say damn we all have something in common.

How did you decide what artists to showcase on Still Grindin?

Cutty: All the artist that I put on the mixtape I already knew what they’re skills are like and I told each one of them that they had to bring it and some of them came at me and was like how can I get on your mixtape?

What do you wish to achieve with Still Grindin?

Cutty: A lot of positive response and just to have people LISTEN TO IT and be like wow Michigan got SKILLS.

What’s your next project?

Cutty: Right now getting ready to do shows with the artist Lyric Lee. She did the intro on Still Grindin.I’m her tour DJ. Working on another mixtape real soon and just doing shows and clubs.

What are your thoughts about Barack Obama obtaining the Democratic nomination? What do you think having him in office will do for black entrepreneurs?

Cutty: I think that’s history in the making and it’s time for a change and I’m a big time supporter. I think it will open up some doors for the community but I think it will take some time.

What separates you from other DJ’s? Why should we opt to listen to your music above others?

Cutty:I have my own style, my mixtapes are not like other DJ’s mixes and I can do multiple things, radio, club, mixtapes, turntablism and there’s some DJ’s that are good friends of mine that can only do one or two of the styles. I can’t make anybody listen to my music but that’s all about me grinding and promoting myself to get your attention to wanna listen to my mixes but why not listen if I send you a demo either email or regular mail? IT’S FREE SO WHY NOT!

If you could battle any DJ, who would it be?  If you could do a track for anyone, who would it be?

Cutty: My idol DJ JAZZY JEFF. He would beat me but I won’t go away quietly. I have so many favorites but NAS, JAY-Z, JEEZY OR TALIB KWELI.

Tell us about Feel the Hunger Radio.

Cutty: FEEL THE HUNGER RADIO is Michigan’s first internet radio program dedicated to independent Hip-Hop, R&B, and Neo-Soul Artists. It’s raw, uncut, uncensored. It features independent talent from all over the State of Michigan: Lansing, Detroit, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Flint, Saginaw, Ann Arbor, and everywhere in between. The show also has picked up a cult following and has featured music from all over the rest of the United States, Canada, and The United Kingdom. The show also will have national major label exclusives. I couldn’t do the show without my tag team partner Jay Scott the main goal is to go satellite with this show because it’s dangerous. Please go check us out www.wdorradio.com a new show is up and running every week and we support everyone across THE WORLD!

Any shout outs?

Cutty: I just want people to take me seriously as a DJ and person because I stay grinding to try to succeed and become that DJ! If I did shouts, it will take tons of pages. (ha ha) but seriously I like to thank God for allowing me to wake up everyday and giving me that talent and my whole family and friends that’s behind me 100% and shouts to Lyric Lee. Her album drops the end of July so look out for that (straight fire) and big ups to WDOR Radio and the entire staff there and my FTH Brother Jay Scott.
